"Yes, I get it every month."

So for those who were not there last game - I will be starting my "norse game" this saturday, the 26th of September, 2009, 1p.m.. So here I am to fill everyone in on what I expect before game, what you will expect from game, and what is our mutual goals this saturday. You do not have to have your character done for saturday. I would actually recomend NOT having it done for one major reason - we are all new to this system. Burning Wheel is a very complete system with a lot of rules to it, most that make sense, but it's still vastly different from D&D in mechanics. We will be going through the rules for building a character together, and making our characters as a group so that the idea's can flow at the table. This will be a Norse based world. Let me rephrase that - this will be a Norse BASED world. Unfortunetly for you and myself, based on my research and what I've read, it is near impossible to make a world based solely on the myths of Norse legend. I will be drawing from the Gods, I'll be drawing from the sense of living, maybe a few of the creatures, but everything else needs to come from me and other sources. Example - Black Elves exist in Norse mythology, and the name and idea inspired the Dark Elves from todays fantasy genre. However, these "elves" in most instances were dwarves, and when they were elves as we know them, they were forgers, normal elves that had been blackened by soot and were inheritantly good. Now I like the one idea that Doug had talked about - Dark Elves are subterrian - why would they be dark in color. They'd more likly to be albino's. So it's things like this that will change. Now for your homework - I want you to think of a possible character - someone who is 20 - 22, has lived for 8 years as a child, and had two major life area's - either two separate area's, or one that was twice as long. Pesant, nobility, soldier, forger, scoundrel, whatever you want. If you want to do something that's not in the books - a specific path or group - we will make it together. The rules actually encourage homebrew elements. We will be character burning for the first hour or so, busting through the process. After that, we will for a little bit do some world burning - going around the table, adding elements to the world, person by person. That way, this is a world that everyone has a hand in. We will then spend the remaining time in the sandbox city of Kelnur that I've created. If everything comes together, this should be a game that we can all enjoy, and that any one of you may be able to sub in as a GM. |
